Sessions

Devan + Courtney

“He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.” - Proverbs 18:22

When one of my best friends Devan called and asked me to shoot his engagement portraits, I immediately jumped on the opportunity! This being my first engagement shoot, I was extremely nervous. Doubts began to flood my mind. “What if I screw this up? What if the pictures turn out horrible? They’re going to hate me if I ruin this.” Then I was reassured that everyone has to start somewhere, and this is where I’m going to start with engagement shoots.  I remember telling my bud Devan “if I mess this up, don’t hate me.” He laughed and said “shut up dude, I’ve seen your work before, you’ll do fine.”  I believe that was code for “you better not screw this up.”

Now this shoot was interesting. Devan and Courtney had a location in mind, so I met them there. I remember Devan telling me, we’re going to hike a little to get to the spot. The hike began, through the woods, up the forest, around the mountain, and down the valley. I’m pretty sure I stopped at one point and begged for water and oxygen. Okay, that may be a stretch from what really happened, but I was not expecting this hike. When we got to the location, my immediate thought was “this hike was worth it.” (Look at the photos, you'll see why!) Shooting with these two was a blast. They had ideas of what they wanted, great attitudes, fun, patient, and super easy to direct. That’s what I call the best clients to work with.

It’s been an honor watching the relationship of Devan and Courtney grow throughout the years to what it is now. They do life together really well, and it shows when you’re around these two. You can almost feel it. Their love for one another is beyond anything I’ve seen from couples our age. It is such a blessing to witness.

I asked Devan and Courtney the same two questions

(1) What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about the other?

(2) What bible verse comes to your mind when you think about the other?

Here are their replies:

Devan –
(1) “Selfless”

(2) “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue." Proverbs 31:26

Courtney –
(1) “He definitely has a servant’s heart and loves the Lord!”

(2) Psalm 15 best describes him. (Read it!)

Below are a few of the photos from the engagement session. Take a look!
Thank you Devan & Courtney, for trusting me with your shoot, and honoring me with your friendship. Wishing you both the best!
